Coiling Technologies has recently manufactured a large Beryllium Copper (CuBe) disc spring, which is designed to meet high forces with small displacements in a highly corrosive marine environment. The unique properties of beryllium copper is that it combines the corrosion resistance of copper but can far exceed the strength of copper when combined with Beryllium alloy. This results in a material with incredibly unique properties that are typically used in marine environments, downhole oil drilling environments as well as agricultural equipment. Although, the strength is increased markedly, the ductility remains similar to copper proving it as an excellent alloy for various cyclic spring applications in adverse environments. Even at cryogenic temperatures, ductility remains high. Another attribute of the alloy is that it is non-magnetic and non-sparking so it can be utilized in environments where combustible gases might be present or munitions manufacturing.
The specifications for this large disc spring are:
Inside diameter: 11.53 inches (292.9 mm)
Outside diameter: 15.40 inches (391.2 mm)
Mass: 7 lbs. (3.175 kg)
These specifications highlight our large spring manufacturing capabilities and commitment to quality in every product we create. At Coiling Technologies, we specialize in manufacturing custom springs from various materials, including high-temperature and exotic alloys, which demonstrates our versatility in meeting diverse industry needs.
Disc Springs: A Reliable Solution for Dynamic Applications
Disc Springs are conical-shaped springs that can be stacked to achieve varying force levels and deflections. This unique design allows them to absorb shock and maintain consistent force over a range of motion, making them ideal for applications where reliability is important. Disc springs are versatile because they can be stacked in different configurations which makes disc springs a versatile solution when requiring a decreasing force during displacement or a progressively higher force during deflection. Their use is deployed in a wide range of industries, including aerospace, agricultural, automotive, electronics, heavy machinery and equipment and oil and gas exploration. Their compact design enables engineers to incorporate them into small spaces while achieving high forces, making them an ideal configuration for applications where space is limited.
Beryllium Copper: Exceptional Strength and Resilience
Beryllium copper is a high-performance alloy known for its impressive combination of strength and durability. It’s engineered to handle challenging environments where materials face a lot of stress and potential damage. This material’s unique combination of properties makes it a preferred choice in industries that demand unwavering reliability and consistent performance. Beryllium copper excels under pressure, making it perfect for parts like discs that need to function dependably in harsh conditions, including those subjected to repeated stress, extreme temperatures, or corrosive materials.
