With any coiled spring the spring usually is going in a direction. Meaning it starts at the top from one end and if you were to follow the coil from the top it’s either going left or right. All helical springs are either left hand wound or right hand wound. Since there really is only two directions a helical spring can go.

Left Hand Wound
If the coil is going left, in spring terminology that means that it’s ‘left hand wound’.

Right Hand Wound
If the coiled spring is going to the right, that would be considered a right hand wound spring.
