High-Tensile Chrome Silicon Springs, ASTM-A401 Wire

Coiling Technologies manufactures custom high-tensile chrome silicon springs for automotive, military, construction, and other industries. Chromium silicon alloy wire is an ideal material for fabricating springs. Its high tensile strength and temperature resilience make it popular, especially for heavy shock loads and moderately high temperatures.

Properties of High-Tensile Chrome Silicon Springs

Chrome silicon springs have a high tensile strength and resilience. They are resistant to set when exposed to moderately elevated temperatures (maximum 246 degrees Celcius or 475 degrees Fahrenheit). The material meets ASTM-A401 wire specifications.

Coiling Technologies manufactures chrome silicon springs with a minimum size of 0.016 inches or 0.406 mm.

Uses

It is used for lightly stressful applications, but can handle more stress and heat that other spring wires like music wires.

Manufacturing Process

High-tensile chrome silicon springs are manufactured by one of two methods:

  1. Annealed and cold drawn: The steel is heated to an appropriate temperature, maintained for a particular time, and slowly cooled. The process improves the material's ductility and machinability.
  2. Oil-tempered: The wire is heated to an extreme temperature and then cooled with oil. The process strengthens it without making it brittle.

Either process is acceptable under ASTM-A401 wire standards.

Advantages of Chrome Silicon Springs

Chromium-silicon is highly resistant to wear and tear, this material can withstand temperatures up to 475°F. Its strength and durability, due to being cold-drawn and heat-treated, make it ideal for enduring shock loads and stress.

Benefits of Purchasing From CTI

Purchasing from Coiling Technologies gives you the advantage of our ISO-certified process, shorter turnaround times, and high technology levels.

Applications for Chrome Silicon Springs

Chromium-silicon alloy spring steel wire is ideal for highly stressed springs subject to shock or impact, such as recoil springs in antiaircraft guns. It withstands temperatures up to 475°F (245°C) and can be heat-treated to higher hardnesses without losing ductility, achieving higher tensile strengths.
